ABOUT DAY TRIP MARANGU CULTURAL TOUR, COFFEE EXPERIENCE AND CHAGGA UNDERGROUND CAVES

Marangu is a village located on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is a popular destination for tourists who want to experience the beauty of the mountain without having to climb to its summit. Marangu day trip is a tour that takes visitors to the village and its surrounding areas for a day.

During the Marangu day trip, visitors can explore the village and its culture, visit the Kilimanjaro National Park, see the waterfalls, and visit the Chagga Museum. The tour usually starts in the morning and lasts for about 8-10 hours. Visitors can hire a local guide who will show them around and provide them with information about the village's history and culture.

If you want just a taste of what Mount Kilimanjaro has to offer, we can cater to you too. Starting from your hotel after breakfast, our driver will take you to Marangu Gate. Situated at 1980m, you’ll start from here and hike through the rainforest to visit Maundi Crater and the Mandara encampment. This half-day trip gives you an opportunity to spot colobus monkeys and a startling array of birdlife in their natural habitat.

DAY O - Arrival - Kilimanjaro

You will also meet with one of our operations staff and Guide who will explain everything you need to know regarding your trek and check all your equipment.

Day 1: Marangu culture and coffee Tour

The Marangu Culture Tour is an immersive experience that takes you through the heart of the Chagga people's way of life. We'll begin our journey early in the morning, driving alongside the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro as the sun rises over the green montane forest. Our first stop will be the Marangu Gate, which marks the start of the Marangu climbing route. You'll feel the excitement in the air as climbers prepare to ascend the mighty Kilimanjaro.

Our next destination is a coffee farm where you'll learn about the local coffee-growing process. You'll see how the beans are grown, harvested, and processed to make the perfect cup of coffee. And of course, you'll get to try some for yourself! After learning about the local coffee culture, we'll make our way to a traditional Chagga restaurant for a delicious lunch. Whether you're a meat-eater or a vegetarian, there's something on the menu for everyone.

With our bellies full, we'll set off on a hike to the Ndoro Waterfalls. The thirty-minute walk through the lush green forest is the perfect way to work off your lunch. When we arrive at the waterfall, you can take a refreshing dip in the pool or simply admire the sparkling waters tumbling down the rocks. Our next stop is the Chagga Underground Caves, a fascinating network of tunnels built by the Chagga to protect themselves from the Maasai in earlier times. We'll spend some time exploring the Chagga Live Museum, an outdoor space that provides a glimpse into traditional Chagga life.

As we make our way back to Moshi, we'll stop for a taste of the local brew: banana beer or banana wine. This is banana country, after all, so it's the perfect way to cap off your day of cultural immersion. Sit back and relax on the drive back to Moshi, taking in the sights and sounds of the villages and foothills along the way. You'll return to your accommodation with a newfound appreciation for the rich culture and traditions of the Chagga people
